In the early part of the century a karate style was developed in Okinawa that made it possible for many people to learn a benefits of a self defense system. Eventually becoming known as Goju Ryu (Hard and Soft). The system combined both traditional and external Chinese principles. Master Chojun Miyagi the founder of Goju Ryu saw the martial arts as being more than effective method of self defense. Master Miyagi visualized of a system that could be tough in schools and colleges. The influences of Chinese styles and combined with naha-te principles eventually formed the Goju Ryu Karate Do. In United States the most known Goju system is the USA Goju introduced in America by master Peter Urban. Master Chojun Miyagi (left) founder of Goju Ryu Karate do. He devoted his life to promoting the martials arts. Master Miyagi travelled all around China, Japan,Hawaii and Korea in an effort to promote his art of Goju Ryu.Master Peter Urban (right) known in America as the father of USA Goju. Master Urban as well as the other masters understood the problem with Americans to assimilate traditional Goju Ryu so he modify his training method to better suit the the needs for karate knowledge.
